Submission Guidelines

Last updated 6-25-2006: We're accepting submissions for the Dungeon Crawl Classics line, but please note the details of making a Dungeon Crawl Classics submission.

Goodman Games accepts submissions from the general public.

Writers and Game Designers

Topics: Goodman Games is soliciting submissions on the following topics right now:

  • Dungeon Crawl Classics Adventures: We're looking for original ideas for classic dungeon crawl modules. When making such submissions, please note the following:
    • Please send the title, plot, major themes, summary of key encounter areas, and list of new crunchy bits in a Word document that is no longer than two pages.
    • Also send a list of published credits, and a writing sample of at least 20,000 words in length. The writing sample must show d20 rules work, including stat blocks and, preferably, new crunchy material.
    • Note that we already have plenty of submissions for the classic, cliched topics (e.g., "the orc dungeon" or "the hall of the giant king") -- what we're looking for are cool concepts that we couldn't come up with on our own.
    • Be familiar with the DCC line. Don't send ideas that duplicate existing modules, or organization/formatting suggestions that run counter to the existing DCC structure.
    • We will evaluate your submission not just on the module idea, but also on your familiarity with the d20 system, how much editing your work will require, and how confident we are that you can complete the assignment in a timely manner. If you don't know what the SRD is, do your homework before submitting anything!

We are not soliciting on any other topics right now. Nonetheless, we will always review submissions. If you'd like to submit an idea, keep in mind that we're most likely to consider these topics:

  • RPGs based on entirely new world concepts. These can be either fantasy or another genre, or entirely unclassifiable. However, they should not be pure genre work (e.g., "d20 cyberpunk rules" or "a pulp sci-fi RPG") -- we want original work that transcends genre boundaries. We prefer d20, but we'll consider non-d20 if it's extremely compelling.
  • Comic books. As with the game ideas above, your idea should not be a pure genre product (unless it's really unique or compelling).
  • Other innovative game ideas. These can be any kind of game, from d20 to cards to board games.

Artists

We are soliciting artists for the Broncosaurus Rex comic book. The art for this comic must be pen-and-ink, B/W, in a retro sci-fi style -- like something in the style of Mark Schultz or Al Williamson.

We're also looking for artists who can work in a retro TSR style, like the art from early-1980s D&D modules. This is for our Dungeon Crawl Classics line.

To make a submission, please send a link to your web site to info@goodman-games.com. If you must send attachments, please do not send more than 2 MB worth. Do not send us original art in the mail!

Submission Procedure: If you would like to submit a topic for Dungeon Crawl Classics, please send a query letter briefly describing your topic to harley@goodman-games.com. Queries for other series should be directed to info@goodman-games.com. If we are interested, we will respond asking for more detail.

If you would like to submit a fantasy setting, new world, or other original idea to us, please send us a query letter or proposal through regular mail (no e-mail). You must accompany your submission with a signed copy of our Idea Submission Agreement. If we are interested, we will ask for more information.

Pay: Goodman Games pays for all accepted work. Depending on the project, we publish on both work-for-hire and creator-owned terms.
