bonuses for stats beyond 18
Sorry if I'm missing this in an obvious place. I see on some monsters an indication of stats above 18 (ogre has 22 strength, which is +6 mod), but I don't see a table that lists the stats above 18 with their associated bonuses. Where can I find this?
Re: bonuses for stats beyond 18
There is no table for this. I handle stat bonuses above 18 differently than just giving more mechanical bonuses and instead allow my players to pick 1 ability from the list below.
-When using any ability rooted in this stat, the player rolls +1d on the die chain
-When using any ability rooted in this stat, the player rolls 2d10 instead of a D20
-If the stat is Strength or Agility, the player may re-roll damage rolls
-If the stat is Personality, a Cleric may re-roll the damage healed from their Lay on Hands check
-If the stat is Intelligence, a Wizard or Elf may re-roll their spell damage
-When using any ability rooted in this stat, the player rolls +1d on the die chain
-When using any ability rooted in this stat, the player rolls 2d10 instead of a D20
-If the stat is Strength or Agility, the player may re-roll damage rolls
-If the stat is Personality, a Cleric may re-roll the damage healed from their Lay on Hands check
-If the stat is Intelligence, a Wizard or Elf may re-roll their spell damage

There is an extended Ability Score chart in MCC; I will try to copy it when I get a chance.
SoBH pbp:
Cathbad the Meek (herbalist Wizard 1): AC 9; 4 hp; S 7, A 7, St 10, P 17, I 13, L 8; Neutral; Club, herbs, 50' rope, 50 cp; -1 to melee attack rolls. Hideous scar.

Some things are meant to be flexible, so you can handle them as you see fit, or adapt them to the circumstances at hand and change them when the circumstances are different. You will find other such "undefined" corners of the rules...Raorgen wrote:Where can I find this?

Re: bonuses for stats beyond 18
Interesting as I was just researching this this weekend. I was going to write up a longer post on this, but I think the DCC Core Rulebook is inconsistent.
In the Ogre Entry:
In single combat, an ogre grasps its enemy in a mighty bear
hug to break his spine. If an ogre lands a slam successfully,
its opponent must succeed at an opposed Strength check
against the ogre’s 22 Strength (+6).
... that would put the upper bonuses close to the 3E SRD bonus, but the lower bonuses don't match what's in the core rulebook. These bonuses are higher than those listed in the 1ED Deities and Demigods which is where I first saw the upper stats published back in the day.
Probably best to go with the MCC version despite it not jiving for The Ogre.

Re: bonuses for stats beyond 18
I house rule it as, every point above 18 increases by +1. So:
19 +4
20 +5
21 +6
22 +7, etc.
This just keeps it simple, and I generally ignore the book if it contradicts this because I haven't seen any official stance on ability scores beyond 18.

Re: bonuses for stats beyond 18
After some research, I'd recommend using the table created by Mutant Crawl Classics which actually took the stats higher:

That makes even more sense. I printed that out and stuck it in my DCC Core Rules.ThickSkullAdv wrote:After some research, I'd recommend using the table created by Mutant Crawl Classics which actually took the stats higher:
