Re: Dying Earth D&D

An excellent special edition of the Graal magazine was published in France in 1990. With a complete system of vancian magic adapted to the AD&D rules. This issue also features a campaign on the Tschai cycle. If you know people who can read French...

Re: Elves of the fairy tradition or "normal" rpg elves ?

I'm running a Sword & Sorcery themed campaign (think Conan the Barbarian) > do you use Howard's world as it is or have you developed a similar but more personal framework ? It's funny to see the sometimes underestimated influence that certain works can have on the way we design modules or envir...

Re: Elves of the fairy tradition or "normal" rpg elves ?

I like my elves as melnibonéans - a decadent arcane race long past its glory looking for entertainment in cruelty and hedonism before finally swept away by the young barbaric races. > I also like this idea but it doesn't completely fit my idea of my game campaign setting. I'm trying to make the Elv...

ah thank you very much, I hadn't noticed this spell (neither of the two clerics in my group has it). It's now as clear as day!

Re: Elves of the fairy tradition or "normal" rpg elves ?

So, while I don't have anything of value to add to your situation beyond empathy and solidarity > thks :) The obstacle I find in general is that even wanting to make them something other than what 50 years of D&D has dictated, players swing back to what they know. > it's true that the weight of...

Re: Limits on magical healing

I believe the answer is "no." At least, I can't recall seeing it in the rules, either. (But, hey, I'm half blind so maybe I missed it. :? ) I would like to reactivate this old discussion because I am also lacking information regarding the care of ability points. Indeed, the rulebook sugge...

Elves of the fairy tradition or "normal" rpg elves ?

Hello everybody, So far there are no elves in my group of players. That said, I'm still wondering how to introduce/play this race in my campaign setting. I'm torn between the desire to make them a real fairy people (like in the book of Dunsany, among others) not responding to human laws (time passin...

Re: Prioritizing DCC Purchases

The perfect funnel module to unify a new adventurers band is Sailors On The Starless Sea, in my opinion. Otherwise, I completely agree with Ravenheart87, the rather cluttered and dense aspect of DCC productions allows a great leeway and a lot of choices, without ever having really "need" f...

Re: In the case of a God being also a Patron...

I don't know if any of this clarifies the OP question, but I do hope it helps generate some thoughtful discourse. Thank you for these interesting remarks, I just saw them ! I tend to agree on the whole. The problem is that I had created (when I started DCC) two gods / patrons. So I decided to keep ...

Saving Throws on items that can break ?

Is there a rule, or just a tip, for dealing with items that can break ? For example, following a fall, an explosion, etc ? I was using a dedicated table for this purpose as a AD&D DM. Perhaps you have adapted or tinkered with some rules for DCC ?

Re: Thrown weapons & Strength modifiers

Consider the Strength modifier to be effectively ±0 at longer ranges. Higher if it used to be negative; lower if it used to be positive.
Thank you Captain Zapp ! Your explanations cannot be clearer ! And these rules don't need to be changed ! :D

Re: Thrown weapons & Strength modifiers

Technically, yes, it applies. Low Strength? You do less damage in things where Strength matters... This is exactly the point that poses a problem for the halfling of the adventurer's party, good old Branlebuc. That said, as a Judge, I think I will continue to apply the rules as described, without w...

Deeds, Succeeds, & Attacks

Hello, When a Deed fails, can the attack still succeed ? For example, a dwarf announces a Disarm Deed on his opponent, his Deed fails. Can its attack do any damage and, if so, is the bonus Deed Dice (d3 in this case) taken into account ? It seemed odd to me that an attack aimed at disarming could tu...

Yes, I know this but devoting a extra action to movement isn't really running, is it ? To simulate a race, a flight for example.

Run ! Movement & Run ?

Hello, How to manage the movement of the characters when they run ? During a combat round, can a character decide to run, and thus use all of his actions for that ? Re: cast higher level spells

Thanks for your response Finarvyn. And how do you operate when acquiring spells at 1st level, for example. Do you let the player draw higher level spells than those he normally masters ? I mean, it's written in the chapter about the wizard class : " known spells are determined randomly. They ma...
