Re: Tegel Manor
I'm not doing myself any favors, though, by using my own homebrew system that is a weird mashup of ODD and DCC.

Re: Tegel Manor
Oof, Tegel Minor is kind of a beast to GM with players used to 5E. I still have a few hangers-on, but death as a real possibility, the lack of a big hook apart from "What loot can we get from this haunted castle?" (though I've added a bit more with the frog cult and stuff). But most of the...

Re: 20 point spell burn
The way I see it, "natural" is the key word in "natural 20." You get the benefits of a natural roll (i.e. crit). And you also get the spellburn bonus to your roll. But the roll is still a roll added to the 20. You have made your interpretation clear. Thank you. Now, what do you ...

Re: 20 point spell burn
That's a serviceable houserule that fixes the ambiguity and incompleteness of the rulebook, I guess. But the rules say "A wizard who sacrifices a full 20 points of ability scores in one fell swoop automatically treats his next spell check as a roll of natural 20." To me, that part is pret...

Re: 20 point spell burn
I'd lean towards interpretation A I would too. If you just read the rulebook that's the takeaway. Problem is, it doesn't work. You get +20 from getting a 20 on the die, you get +20 from the twenty points you just spent, and you realize you're already well past the 38+ that is the strongest effect f...

Re: Has anyone done DCC Blackmoor?
Dave Arneson's Blackmoor setting is perhaps my all-time favorite commercial setting and the times I've run it I mostly do it with OD&D (or sometimes C&C or occasionally 5E). What I would really like is DCC Blackmoor , since the DCC rules have that 1974 vibe and I feel like they would fit th...

Re: The extremity of the DCC Luck Check
To address some of your points succinctly (sometimes in ways that have already been addressed by others), Luck is a fundamentally different attribute than the others. Your physical attributes will always be relative to the difficulty of a task (DC). If you have 0 Luck, there's should be no way at al...

Re: DCC-inspired rules system
Link works. Looks interesting so far. :) Again, thanks for checking it out. I did find an old pdf on the blog, but it was stupidly hidden in a link with text the same color as everything else. :-) The one I linked to above is updated, though, so better that you have that one anyway. I did find a fe...

Re: DCC-inspired rules system
An interesting concept, as I enjoy both Moldvay B/X and DCC RPG. I didn't see the link to a PDF, however. Perhaps I'm not looking close enough. :( Hey, thanks for checking it out. I thought I'd posted it on the blog (which I need to get back to), but see if this works. https://documentcloud.adobe.c...

Re: New Judge & Challenge Rating
Simplifying, but I had a player with a Thief basically say, "I move silently and hide in shadows as I sneak across the room." The room was brightly lit and metallic with no cover. I said, "The room is brightly lit and metallic. How are you going to do that?" He said, "Let me...

Re: Tegel Manor
If anyone wants to jump in on this game on Discord, I have three players currently active out of five who started. Two players had to drop out for unforeseen real world complications. We're not too deep yet, and I'd be happy to catch anyone up. You could take over one of the abandoned characters or ...

Nice, thanks for this!
Is Temple the same as Tomb, or are there two different new Savage Kings modules?

Re: Tegel Manor
There's a Swords and Wizardry version too that shouldn't be too hard to convert to DCC. Hey man, thanks for the info. I didn't realize there was a Swords & Wizardry version. I'm mostly running the Judge's Guild original (well, the republished version by Goodman Games), though I'm also consultin...

Re: Interrupting a Spellcaster
What happens if a spellcaster is successfully interrupted (spellcaster fails the DC11 Concentration check)? Is there a negative mod applied to the spell roll? Automatic Misfire? In the situation I describe, I allow the Will check, but on failure, spell is lost for the day. That would be okay for a ...

Re: Temple of El. Evil MISSING CONTENT IN VOL. 2 !!!
Hey Goodman Games. Love your products, especially the "Original Adventures Reincarnated". I'm posting here because I excitedly just received my copy of the brand new publication: Temple of Elemental Evil (2 volume set). I love seeing all the old original dungeon levels in original print (...

Re: Interrupting a Spellcaster
Probably overly strict, but in my games I make everyone declare what they plan to do before initiative is rolled. If a Wizard is interrupted by an attack before his round, the spell is lost for the day.

I have a game just getting started on Discord. It's not using DCC, exactly, though. More of a homebrew that has some DCC in its veins. DM me if interested.

Re: Wizard Spells
I've looked in all the relevant places in the core rules, but I cannot find any resolution to my specific dilemma regarding a 1st level wizard's first spells: Is the general consensus for a newly advanced 0 level to 1st level wizard to choose their first four spells, roll for them randomly, or do y...

Re: Tegel Manor
I still haven't started running Tegel Manor, but fleshing it out has been a lot of fun. I've run sparsely-written one-page dungeons before, and I ran Stonehell, but Tegel as written is a new level of minimalism for me. I'm a novelist myself, and I'm finding that prepping this dungeon is a lot like w...

Re: Campaign thoughts?
As always, GnobeBoy, you are wise. (1) I like the suggestions and I may come up with some sort of wacky "roll a die to see which dice type is used" for the days in between adventures. (2) I'll have to tinker with charts for this. If I recall correctly, there are costs based on the type of...

DCC-inspired rules system
This year, I was inspired to try to add some B/X elements to my DCC PbP campaign. That ended up turning into me creating my own system that's actually more OD&D with some DCC thrown in than it is B/X. If you're interested, the pdf is on this blog I started to talk about such things: https://mold...

Re: Looking for a game
I just ended a PbP campaign that I ran for about a year and a half on Discord. I had about eight steady players, and I tried out a lot of different play-styles, starting with just running some small dungeon modules but eventually trying to make it a bigger campaign that built on the lore of what the...
