Re: Any point in spell level?
I could see adding a house rule about “chance to learn spell” like AD&D had. Maybe have a set DC, which is modified by caster level (down) and spell level (up). Then have the caster roll when they discover a new spell. Failure means the spell is beyond their comprehension. They could try again a...

Pg 84: Delayed Reaction: sometimes the penalties refer to "combat initiative rolls" and sometimes just "initiative rolls." I assume these are the same thing, but should probably be labeled consistently.

I am considering a home brew campaign like Shadowrun once the MCC rules come out.

Mentzer Red box...1984, followed by many years of 1st and 2nd edition AD&D. Gave it up when I went to college in 1992. Picked it back up about 6-7 years ago after listening to the first few episodes of the Roll for Initiative podcast. Haven't looked back!

My favorites are: Sailors on the Starless Sea Perils of the Sunken City Nebin Pendlebrook's Perilous Pantry Attack of the Frawgs The Arwich Grinder (in Crawl #9) I have not run Hole in the Sky, but hear it is good. I also think Frozen in Time would be a cool funnel with minor modifications, but I ha...

Re: What are your top 10 DCC third-party products?
Boy, that is a tough list to make. I had to do lucky number 13 instead of 10...sorry. Off the top of my head, in no particular order: Sunken City Omnibus by Purple Sorcerer (Perils of the Sunken City is a great funnel, and this is a cool place to revisit in your campaign). Angels, Daemons and Beings...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!
Just a quick hello. I started with 1E back in '80 and played on and off for about 10 years. Got disgusted with the move to 2E and took a few decades off. Got back into playing about 2 years ago, running C&C with my kids and am having a great time with it. I've heard good things about DCC as wel...

Re: Playing DCC in school? I just started. Anyone else?
I started up a lunch club about a month ago. We play twice a week during both lunch periods (one is my lunch and the other my planning period). I have one group going through Sailors on the Starless Sea and the other group going through Peril of the Sunken City. Both groups are having a blast! I did...

Re: Mutant Crawl Classics (??)
Yeah, it's important to note that the 28 page MCC RPG preview rules (containing two sample classes, intro to the setting, sample mutations, and artifacts) is just the tip of the iceberg. The Gen Con Program Guide contains 4 separate DCC RPG adventures (including The Hypercube of Myt), an Xcrawl Apo...

Re: 20 point spell burn
Example 4 (how I understand that some of you are dealing with this rule in question): Spellburn 20 points. You don't bother to roll a spell check, and just assume it is a 20. So you get your 20 points of spellburn, plus CL, plus INT bonus, plus CL again (for having a natural 20). Final result: 23 Y...

Re: 20 point spell burn
Ok, am I crazy? I have read the rule three times and I don't see where you guys are getting that you don't make a roll. It says if you spend 20 points in spellburn you treat your very next spell check as a natural 20. You treat it like a 20, not you assume it is a 20 and don't bother to roll it. And...

I guess, I see the ability to share luck at 2x the rate, and recover it more quickly as balancing out any other factors vs. the Warrior/Dwarf. Plus, they are a totally different character to play, and bring other things to the party. Their ability to sneak silently is also a big plus when used crea...

Re: 20 point spell burn
I just went back and re-read the rule. It says that "a wizard who sacrifices a full 20 points of ability scores in one fell swoop automatically treats his next spell check as a roll of natural 20." (page 107) And the rule for a spell check of natural 20 states "A spell check result of...

Re: DCC adventures beyond the funnel
I have been running a campaign for a while now...and most characters are up to level 3. It seems to work fine for campaign play. If anything, I think it is better because of patron taint, deity disapproval, etc. which often lead to side quests for the party. I have never had a problem stringing the ...
